Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time, many years ago, it was prohibited to manufacture, sell, and transport alcohol in the United States. So people not only had to live a hard life but were also forced to do it sober.
There was an escape from the miserable, sobering reality though—underground bars, hidden from the public eye, with passwords or secret knocking patterns to gain access.
These places were called speakeasies. With rebelliousness filling the smoky air, those weren’t just about the drinks; they were about the people, the conversations, and the unfiltered truth.
Tucked away in secret basements and behind hidden doors, people gathered to escape the noise and the reality of the world. They talked, laughed, drank, danced, and shared stories—the kind of stories they couldn’t tell just anywhere.
Let’s fast forward many years…
Today, the world looks different, but maybe not as much as we’d like to think. Because let’s be honest… true rebels still don’t fit in. We’re still trying to find our sweet spot in this world and, just like back then, we crave a space to escape to.
We all look for a space where we are appreciated for who we are, not for who we’re expected to be. A space where we feel welcome and safe. Where we meet like-minded people who, too, didn’t fit into the standard life pre-scripted for us all—those we’re keen to share our stories, opinions, hopes, and dreams with. Those who get us, and instead of judging, they actually like the fact that we are different.
We’re tired of what’s happening around us both in real life and online. The fight for attention, the bullshit, the fake gurus and influencers, the media with its hidden agenda, the politics, people passionately arguing about things they have no clue about, the corporate prisons, gossip, drama, money chase, etc.
The more intense this madness becomes and the more often fake people get the spotlight, the voices that really matter are harder to find, let alone hear. Especially in technology and startups, where money talks louder and drowns out real innovation and genuine stories.
As a result, we get to a point where, in order to build our own thing, we either have to betray our true rebel selves and become who they expected us to be—or try to escape.
Escape…
Not from prohibition, but from the chaos. Not from sobriety, but from everything we were told we’re supposed to do.
To a place where we would finally be understood and valued, find new friends and people to build with, and get the support (and maybe even the hug) that we longed for so long.
Today the Rebel Speakeasy was born: our version of a speakeasy that would hopefully become that place you were looking for to escape to.
It’s where we strip away the polished facades and have the kind of conversations that aren’t for everyone. The kind of conversations that push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and dive into the raw, unfiltered realities of building, creating, and innovating.
We’re going to bring ideas that challenge you, stories that inspire you, and voices that speak the truth.
And together, we’ll help each other deal with the challenges on our journey to freedom.
So, welcome to the Rebel Speakeasy.
